Coelho takes 2011 Portuguese Cup

Over the weekend the 2011 edition of the Portuguese Cup was held in the old town of Evora in Alentejo - 100km East of Capital Lisbon. With an all new track for 2011 the race went well with good organisation as well as a track that held up well. Eventual TQ & Winner Bruno Coelho sent us his report from the race and despite only completing his engine break in during the last round of practice he felt confident with his package for qualifying. Securing overal TQ by topping two qualifiers Coelho eased through his semi to start in 2nd behind Miguel Matias on pole. The 45 min final came down to a battle between Bruno and Miguel with the pair running close right up to the end, however a problem with 2 mins to go would see Miguel retire, albeit still claiming 2nd ahead of Ricardo Monteiro. Despite Miguel's retirement it was a close fight with either of the two able to win, fastest lap going to Bruno giving him a clean sweep of TQ, win & Best lap.

Drake wins in Palm Desert

Saturday was round four on Southern California’s JBRL Nitro Series sponsored by TLR. The host track was Palm Desert Raceway. The event turnout was light with around 100 entries due to the Holiday weekend and the extreme temperatures of 118 degrees and the track temp was 166 degrees. In qualifying it was Team Losi Racing / Nova Rossi driver Adam Drake who set the pace in both of the expert 1/8th classes. The extreme temperatures made chassis and engine tuning difficult for most of the racers.

At the start of the truck main Drake began to pull away and at the end of the 25 minute main Drake took the win followed by Brad Wintermantle who was also driving a TLR 8ight T 2.0.

In the buggy final, Drake led from start to finish and won the 25 minute final. Tim Long finished third with his TLR 8ight 2.0. Due to the extreme heat a number of drivers had engine problems, but Drake’s Nova Rossi engines ran prefect all day and he took the double victory. Nova Rossi engines also tq’ed and won the intermediate buggy and truck class. Congrats to Jacob Haas on winning truck with his TLR 8ight T 2.0 and to Sean Gaffney for winning the buggy class.

German Truggy Nat Rd1

Below you will find the results for the first round of the Truggy Nationals in Welden, Germany...

Yannick French Nats Rd 4 winner

Rd 4 of the 2011 French Nationals were hosted at the rather large Saint-Quentin track; located east of Amiens in northern France. With news that Reno Savoya would not be attending days after his move back to France, the title fight narrowed; the winner will be 'Aigoin', but which one?! Qualifying saw the 'Senna vs. Prost'-like struggles begin, Jerome taking TQ in Q1, Yannick countering with his own TQ in Q2, Q3 and Yannick just edged it by 1.23 secs. Lieing in 3rd fairly untroubled Jerome Sartel, three 3rd place finishes - ready to pick up any scraps that might come his way come finals day. Earlier in the year we saw Spaniard Robert Batlle make a cameo appearance at the first round French nats, this weekend it was team GB's Elliott Boots who attended, qualifying 7th overall.

The final would see issues for many runners, in fact at his first fuel pitstop Yannick flamed out, with the title challenged precariously balanced he was out again as quick as he could, Elliott Boots was running until a suspected LiPo problem ended his final early. Jerome Sartel was another with problems; this time tyres coming unglued, as the final drew to a close it looked to be heading Jerome Aigoin's way. Until with 3 mins to go the distinctive yellow & black TLR (sporting larger rear wing endplates) snuck past to claim victory. Yannick's win helps him in his quest, but with Jerome finishing 2nd there's still a lot left to do at the last round, having said that Jerome's chances are as follows; if he wins and Yannick finishes outside the top 3 than he is Champion. There is only one problem... round 5 is towards the end of September, so we'll have to wait to see what transpires...

Euro B - Quali day

Apologies for the poor updates, but the internet was sh..... not so good. Laurent Tartare restored French pride by taking 2nd in the last round and overall TQ, Swiss driver Jeremy Pettit up until then we had had a few different guys TQ'ing; Sandberg, Noble amongst others. The Mugen car looks very strong with 5 cars dominating the top 6.

Saturday at the Euro B is here and we have 4 rounds of qualifying to get through, yesterday Swede Marcus Sandberg set the pace in both timed practice sessions on a track that had taken a bit of a beating. This morning its a bit cold and damp with overcast skies, with no drivers in the top 3 during practice but dominating the rest of the top positions the Frenchies will be looking to lock out as many semi places as they can for tomorrow.

Henry Hat trick @ RC Pro

Sprucewood TLR attended the Canadian RC Pro Ontario round #1 at Average Joe’s this past weekend and came away with outstanding results. Though the mains day had the racers guessing with the rain the weather cleared up for the a finals and the racing was intense. TLR’s Dave Henry pulled off tq’s and wins in pro nitro buggy, pro electric buggy and pro 2wd SCT! TLR Team mates Steve Taylor and Tommy Giovinazzo both had personal best results with both making the a main in Truggy. Special mention to TLR privateer Jay Christiano for finishing 2nd in pro nitro buggy.

TLR's Lars Johnson dominated qualifying and the 45 minute A main in the Pro Nitro Truggy class. TLR's Matt Chambers also dominated qualifying and the 45 minute Pro Buggy A main to make it a TLR sweep of the Pro classes. Lars also went on to take the win in both buggy and truggy "Dash for Cash" races held Saturday night. Special mention also goes out to TLR privateer Justin Salerno for dominating the Open Electric class by taking the TQ and win. Another TLR privateer Scott Bagwin had a great weekend winning the Open Buggy A main and taking 2nd in the Open Truggy A main.

Drake Wins Agama Spring Challenge

Adam Drake wins Agama Spring Challenge with his Nova Rossi powered TLR 8ight 2.0. The turnout for this event was light with around 80 entries. In qualifying Matt Schreffler would take round one followed by Drake, but in round two and three Drake set the pace and ended up with the overall TQ followed by Schreffler. At the start of the buggy final Schreffler made a mistake on the first lap and fell back in the pack. Drake went on to win the 30 minute final by two laps over teammate Matt Schreffler and Rick Racer finished third.

Drake Wins JBRL Nitro #2

Saturday was the second stop on Southern California’s JBRL series sponsored byTeam Losi Racing. Many of the top driver’s attend in preparation for next months ROAR 1/8th fuel Nationals. Some of the nearly 200 entries included Adam Drake, Cody King, Mike Truhe, Dustin Evans, Matt Schreffler, Drew Moller, Travis Amezcua, Brent Thielke, Steven Hartson, Clint Wachter, Colby Poh, Dani Choi, Chad Bradley, Andy Smolnik, and Jessie Robinson. In qualifying it was Team Losi Racing / Nova Rossi driver Adam Drake who set the pace in both of the expert 1/8th classes. The temperatures in sunny CA started to drop by the time the mains rolled around and the track started getting rough. The start of the expert truck main was delayed two minutes as Drake hit another vehicle that was up side down during warm-up which severely bent a front shock shaft. Drake’s pit crew wasn’t able to repair the shock, but they did have enough time to bolt on another shock from Mike Truhe’s buggy. At the start of the main Drake began to pull away from Bradley, Moller, and King as they were in a heat battle. At the end of the 20 minute main Drake took the win by a half a lap over King and Bradley. In the buggy final Drake, Amezcua, and King start to break away from the rest of the field. King then suffered a flameout, but continued on to finished sixth. Drake led from start to finish and won the 20 minute main followed by Amezcua in second and Bradley rounding out the top three.

Euro Warm Up Qualifying

Qualifying at the Euro warm up was dominated by one driver; Robert Batlle - he stormed to TQ in each of the 4 rounds, although missed out on the clean sweep being pipped to Q4 just by Martin Bayer - himself recovering from a servo issue in Q4. Elliott Boots put in a great drive in Q4, cruelly denied a TQ shot with a mistake on the 2nd last lap, nonetheless the result moved him up to 5th. Towards the end of Q4 the weather turned a bit cold and overcast as the lower finals got underway.

Rd 2 BRCA Nats - 2/2 Mr Bloomfield

New guest writer Rob Cuss takes us on a little journey through the 2nd round BRCA nationals, held on Sunday in Coventry.

The track itself is quite a challenge to be quick on, with a nice flowing feel to it and a nice mixture of obstacles allowing 36-38 sec laps for the top guys. Mother nature was going to have a play this weekend as well, drenching the track on saturday evening with a heavy downpour and then lightly sprinkling the drivers as we all arrived at 6:30am-7am, there we quite a few puddles left on the track which were brushed aside and sawdust was put down by the clubs members. The rain stopped and the track while still fairly moist looked in good shape.

So who would be the pre event favourites ?
Darren Bloomfield our current champ had to be at the top of the list after winning at Frankley and a 4th at the prestigious Neobuggy event,
also running a Nitrotec engine which has fantastic mileage. He looked good at the pre national test session.
Elliott Boots was super fast at Frankley in qualifying and a mechanical put him out in the final, this was his story last year just plain old bad luck
He was looking to bounce back from a dissapointing Neo where he just missed out on the main.
Neil Cragg seems to have found himself once more he had a great Neo finishing in 5th with a stella performance.
Simon Willetts after a 2nd at Frankley with a monster bump up and a another Neobuggy main event appearence, Butch seems to have found his feet with his new ride. Always fast and consistent.
Graham Alsop the old warrior from up north can never be counted out and with a good winter season under his belt he seems to be faster than last year.

Montpellier GP Quali

Q3: Pre race favourite Yannick Aigoin put together a solid run in Q3 to take the overall TQ infront of Spaniard and fellow ProCircuit runner Robert Batlle, going into Q3 Robert held provisional TQ, however a change of setup didn't work out for him in Q3 as he had problems with steering and handling, up to that point a very positive and strong debut. The headlines must go to nVision for putting 5 engines in the top 10 - first race for the 'nV' and not an easy one either, also kudos to ProCircuit for their 1,2. Reno Savoya ended up 7th - lower than he usually places but its his first European outing with the Durango. Going into Q3, much of the left side of the track had blue grooved as rubber was laid down and baked in, temps aren't warm in the shade nor the track, but the sun has been up all day.

Rd 5 JBRL @ Thunder Alley

Report by: Rob Barrett & RNC Foto
The JBRL nitro race kicked off in Beaumont California at the famous Thunder Alley. 172 entries turned out for the 5th race in the series. It was a hot day but everyone had a good time running in their respective heats and enjoying some of the awesome burritos and tacos that were being made on site by a local vendor. Thunder Alley had a challenging layout for this round with 3 good size step up jumps, 3 sections with 2 possible paths that could be taken, and a tough 4 turn downhill staircase. The qualifying heats had some great action with plenty of slicing and dicing as the racers vied for P1. Expert buggy, round 2 was fun to watch as the top pros went for the top spot in each of the 3 heats. Heat 16 saw Adam Drake take the top spot only to have Mike Castellano take it away in heat 17 and then Cody King, not wanting to be out down by Drake and Castellano locked up the P1 spot in the 18th heat.

Expert Buggy A Main 15 minute main
The final race of the day, the experts lined up ready to duel for every point they could find in the series. After qualifying the top 3 were Cody King, Matt Castellano, and Adam Drake. As the field took to the first lap the mid pack guys gotten piled up in the second turn and Adam flamed out but his crew was on it and got him back out about 3/4 of a lap back of the leaders. After the dust settled on the 2nd lap, the top of the field was Cody, Drew Moller, and Travis Amezcua. Levi was pressuring Amezcua and got the pass for third place. Half way through the race Adam had picked off half the field and was charging toward the front. By the end of the 15 minute main Adam had closed to 4th place and was 7 seconds away from 3rd place Levi. Drew grabbed the lead and Cody was closing in with just 2 minutes when Cody rolled it over on top of the stairs and gave Drew a nice lead he could ride to the checkers to take the win.

Expert Truggy A Main 15 minute main
The expert class lined with up Adam Drake, Dylan Rodriguez and Levi taking the top 3 spots. From the sound of the tone to the end no one had anything for Adam and his Losi Truggy. They all got off to a clean start as Dylan and Levi tried to track down Adam but Cody King was clean and fast and caught the pair. Cody was able to capitalize when Dylan rolled it over for the 3rd spot as Levi put a good amount of daylight between himself and Cody to take the 2nd spot.

Jimmy and his crew did a great job running a smooth race, calling penalties for rough driving and handling tech. The next JBRL Nitro race will be in Bakersfield California, September 12th at Full Throttle Hobbies & Raceway.

The track after all racing had finished

LRP Wins UK Truggy Pro Rd2

SMD reports - A brilliant days racing was had at the 2nd round of the UK Truggy Pro Series at Deerdale Off Road Club. The Astro surfaced track held up well to the Lightning storm and the deluge of rain that hit in the morning! A super effort from all to clear the standing water, dig drains, and prep the track before racing started. 2 rounds of qualifying made things difficult for all drivers, coupled with the damp track conditions things looked interesting. LRP drivers Joe Joyce, Stan Gill, Steven Bond, Jordan Banks, Jack Laws all running the new S8TX V2 UK Team Edition Truggy were up for the challenge. The 2 qualifying rounds were over in a blink of any eye with many drivers having issues, Jordan Banks, Joe Joyce & Jack Laws had technical issues leaving them 1st, 2nd and 9th in the B final! Stan Gill had an excellent run in his 2nd round to qualify him 2nd overall, Steven Bond in 7th both in the A final. The B final was tuff with many good drivers going for the top 4 bump up places, Jordan Banks had a good start with Joe following close behind with Jack battling in the mid field. Jordan dropped down the field with a steering issue & Joe took the lead and did not look back. Jack Laws placed himself into a bump position and finished 3rd with Jordan just missing out in 5th place. Read more here.

Bayer wins Quakenbruck indoor

/25 23:15:00 (112 reads)

The annual Quakenbruck Indoor was held in Germany this weekend, Linus Thern TQ'd - starting his time with Novarossi off in style. However after the semis it was fellow Nova driver Martin Bayer who was sitting on pole for the 30-minute main with a certain Mr Ronnefalk in spot number two. Luck didn't favour the young swede this weekend as his final ended after 4 laps; a driveshaft breakage having been hit, put him out. At the halfway point (15 mins) Bayer had pulled out a 15 second gap from 2nd palced Joern Neumann (LRP/LRP), and was driving fast and putting in consistent laptimes. With 10 mins left Neumann hit engine problems (we believe glowplug) and fell back. Photos from Quakenbruck
